Pricing and plans
How much does System Mechanic cost?
System Mechanic comes in three annual tiers: System Mechanic (optimization), System Mechanic Pro® (optimization plus antivirus), and System Mechanic® Ultimate Defense™ (everything, plus privacy tools). All three are yearly subscriptions covering up to 10 household Windows® PCs. For current list prices and any active discounts, see the iolo product pages: promotions run regularly.
What's the difference between System Mechanic, Pro, and Ultimate Defense?
The entry-level System Mechanic edition is pure optimization: cleanup, startup management, and real-time tuning. System Mechanic Pro adds real-time antivirus (System Shield®), anti-malware removal (Malware Killer™), and file recovery (Search and Recover). System Mechanic Ultimate Defense includes everything in Pro, plus Privacy Guardian™ for online tracking protection and the ByePass™ password manager.
Is there a free version of System Mechanic?
Yes. System Mechanic Free offers basic PC optimization at no cost. The paid editions add automation, deeper cleanup, antivirus, and privacy tools. You can also try the paid editions risk-free.
Is there a free trial or money-back guarantee?
Yes to both. iolo offers a 30-day trial of its paid editions and a 30-day money-back guarantee on purchases, so you can test System Mechanic on your own PC before committing.
Free vs Premium: which should I choose?
Choose System Mechanic Free if you want occasional manual cleanup at no cost. Choose a paid edition (Pro or Ultimate Defense) if you want automated, always-on maintenance via Smart ActiveCare, deeper cleanup, real-time RAM and CPU tuning, and built-in antivirus and privacy protection. Most users who want a "set it and forget it" PC choose a paid tier.
What it does
What does System Mechanic actually do?
System Mechanic keeps your Windows PC running fast and clean. It removes over 50 types of hidden junk files, manages startup programs, frees up memory in real time, and runs Smart ActiveCare: automated maintenance that detects and repairs more than 30,000 different issues while your PC sits idle. The Pro and Ultimate Defense tiers add antivirus, anti-malware, and privacy protection.
Does System Mechanic remove viruses and malware?
Yes, in the Pro and Ultimate Defense tiers. System Shield provides real-time antivirus protection, and Malware Killer scans for and removes infections already on your machine. The entry-level System Mechanic edition is optimization-only and does not include antivirus.
Can System Mechanic recover deleted files?
Yes, with Search and Recover, included in System Mechanic Pro and Ultimate Defense. It can restore accidentally deleted documents, photos, music, videos, emails, and even entire folders, including data from damaged drives.
How often should I run System Mechanic?
You don't have to schedule anything manually. Smart ActiveCare® runs automated maintenance in the background while your PC is idle. For a deeper manual cleanup, running DeepClean every few weeks is a reasonable cadence, but the automation handles routine upkeep on its own.
Compatibility & setup
Does System Mechanic work on a Mac?
No. System Mechanic is built specifically for Windows and does not run on macOS. It supports current versions of Windows on desktops and laptops.
Can I use System Mechanic on multiple computers?
Yes. A single System Mechanic subscription covers up to 10 personal Windows PCs in your household, so one purchase can keep the whole family's computers running well.
What are the system requirements?
System Mechanic runs on current supported versions of Windows (Windows 11, 10, 8.1, 8, and 7; visit this page for full system requirements) and has a modest footprint designed not to slow your PC down.
Does System Mechanic update automatically?
Yes. System Mechanic keeps itself current with automatic updates so you always have the latest optimizations and protection definitions, without manual downloads.
Billing, account and support
How do I cancel my subscription or turn off auto-renewal?
You can turn off auto-renewal at any time from your iolo account settings. Doing so stops future charges while letting you use the software through the end of your current term. If you were charged unexpectedly, iolo's 30-day money-back guarantee applies.
How do I get a refund?
iolo offers a 30-day money-back guarantee on purchases. Contact iolo support with your order details to request a refund within that window. If you were charged for an add-on you didn't intend to buy, support can help resolve it.
How do I uninstall System Mechanic?
From the Windows desktop search bar field, type: Control Panel. From the list of Control Panel applets, click on Programs and Features. This will open a list of all installed software. Find System Mechanic, double-click it, and select Uninstall/Change.
Uninstalling removes the software but does not automatically cancel a subscription; turn off auto-renewal in your account separately.
How do I contact iolo support?
iolo provides customer support through its website's support and knowledge-base section, where you can find help articles and contact options. Note that iolo never makes unsolicited support phone calls: any out-of-the-blue caller claiming to be iolo support is an impersonator.
How do I stop System Mechanic's promotional pop-ups?
Open System Mechanic, go to Settings, and disable promotional messages: iolo provides an official setting for this. You can also manage Windows notifications under Settings → System → Notifications.
